Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses a firm but gentle pressure to improve circulation. It eases muscle aches and tension, improves flexibility, relieves stress and creates a relaxed body and mind.

Swedish massage refers to a collection of techniques designed primarily to relax muscles by applying pressure to the muscles and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish Massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain, improves circulation and stretches the ligaments and tendons. Swedish Massage also stimulates the skin and nervous system while at the same time relaxing the nerves themselves. As it can help reduce emotional and physical stress it is often recommended as part of a regular program for stress management. You may choose between an hour and an hour and a half massage.

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas.

It feels good and it is beneficial to your health. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins and gets blood and oxygen circulating properly. It is both corrective, therapeutic and helps to relieve chronic pain. A typical session lasts about one hour.

Lomilomi -Hawaiian Bodywork
Lomilomi is a Hawaiian word meaning 'rub', 'massage', or 'break apart'. Native Hawaiians say the true definition of Lomilomi is reconnecting with spirit. The purpose of Lomilomi is to bring alignment to the individual in body, mind and spirit. Setting the intention for healing, the therapist will utilize prayer (pule), breath (ha) and energy (mana). The practice of Lomilomi was common within each Hawaiian community and contributed to a vibrant, healthy society.
Lomilomi training is varied and will be determined by the lineage of the teacher. While Lomilomi is often referred to as a spiritual massage, the technique is also practical and specific. It is, for example, effective in breaking up calcium deposits and lactic acid build-up. Lomilomi has a profound effect on the health and development of the muscles and the activity of the blood and nerves associated with them. It dilates blood vessels, thus improving circulation and helping to prevent strokes. It relieves muscle spasms and increases the rate of nutrients brought to the muscles by the blood, without increasing lactic acid production. It stimulates the lymphatic system to release waste products, and is useful after injury to ligaments and tendons by dispersion edema. It also restores vitality and heightens metabolism.

The above description is excerpted from an article on the history of Lomi Lomi written by Tamara Mondragon, which appeared as the cover story in the July 2000 issue of Massage Magazine.

Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a system based on the body's energy meridians. Shiatsu literally means finger pressure. It involves pressing points on the body and stretching and opening of the energy meridians. Through this pressure the energy flowing in the meridians is influenced leaving one with a feeling of balance and relaxation. Shiatsu massages are normally done fully clothed. A typical shiatsu session lasts about an hour.
